Why Hulu Is Being Left Behind In The UK
When Apple announced its new iPad, the biggest howls of derision centralized around the fact that it had no flash integration which equalled no Hulu. But then rumors abound that Hulu would be available on the new touch screen device, and that leads to the possibility of Hulu playing on your big screen TV as well.
Hulu is deadly popular in the online live internet tv world, but how many people get to watch it on the big screen? Well not many, unless your happy to change your pc settings, get in some cables, put your pc in front of the tv etc. Nobody except techno geeks anguish.
And now according to MediaMemo, Hulu is looking at to get in on some big screen action and tempt paying customers with a “three screen” bounty service. They so far havent had much luck, but the iPad could change all that.
The three screen arrangement construct means that the watchman could watch streams on pc like they do now free of charge, but watching streams on a wandering device or big screen television would require paying for. The Netflix method of having the streaming mental ability built into every set-top box, games console and Blu-ray player is the only way to achieve this.
So Hulu will need to convince manufacturers of these devices to instal their software and convince users to use it. Netflix charge low fees whilst tv companies charge high. Since the fanfare of the SeeSaw launch this week, many have been wondering how the mighty Hulu got left behind. preparation to launch in the UK for over a year, it has been pipped to the post by the new young upstart and other services. So how did they let this happen?
advert disagreements with the UK broadcasters have been the cause of the delays. Effectively, Hulu want to hold in the advertising and the broadcasters have been giving them the feel in return. Back in 2009, Hulu started negotiating with several UK broadcasters and content providers. A September 2009 launch date was confidently announced.
Will Hulu Ever Hit The UK?
However, control of the advertising was the sticking Orient. This of course doesnt fit in well with Hulu’s expectations.
And now it may well be too late. Channel 4 and Five content is now syndicated via YouTube and SeeSaw, I’m get-go to wonder if Hulu will ever go international.
So will Hulu ever have a UK mien
Sources say that Hulu have now pencilled in June 2010 for a uk release, but will it nowbe a viable business when channel 4 and Five now have deals in place that give them control of their own advertising inventory.
